Retirement isn’t one decision. It’s a long series of them.
The right advice depends entirely on where you are — what you’re preparing for, what you’re living through, and the parts that give you true enjoyment. The travel or experiences you want to have, the simple day to day parts of your life now you don’t have to work, and then ultimately when it’s time — your thoughts on where, how and possibly who it all will be left to when you’re no longer here.
We work with clients at three key junctures
Some clients come to us years out, already with good assets or wealth accumulated or a business to sell and a date in mind. Others are much closer to retirement or even already retired and want a second opinion on whether it’s all holding together. Others again are thinking well past their own lifetime.
The advice looks different at each point, but the approach doesn’t change — understand the life first, consider the right strategies for success, ensure the right structures are in place, then invest accordingly.
Wherever you are, the starting questions are the same: what is important to you and what do you want this next part to look like? And if you’re unsure, we can help you discover that for yourself as well.
Preparing for retirement
You’ve built the wealth. The question is what to do with it.
This is where the decisions carry the most weight, and where timing matters more than most people realise. Required actions, strategies and structures put in place before a business sale or a major change often can’t be replicated afterwards, which makes the years before retirement some of the most valuable years for advice.
Living in retirement
You’ve arrived at the retirement you worked for. Our job now is to keep the wealth working properly behind you — steady through whatever markets do, and available when you want it — so your attention stays on the years themselves and the people you’re spending them with.
Planning your legacy
Thinking beyond your own lifetime.
For most of our clients the concern isn’t whether there’ll be enough left. It’s how to properly apply it for retirement so it’s secure for their lifetime and beyond; whether it will be used well, and what it might do for or in some cases ‘to’ the people who receive it. We help families plan this phase deliberately, including structured charitable or societal giving that continues long after they’re gone.
